McDonald’s Relies on ABBYY OCR Technology to Power Mobile App

McDonald’s in Germany launched a special promotion during the FIFA World Cup in Brazil: By sending the unique code, which was printed on his cup or food packaging, each McDonald’s customer had the opportunity to win a valuable prize. To make the data entry more convenient for the participants the company offered a possibility to photograph the code with a mobile phone instead of entering it manually. To enable this, the McDonald’s creative agency Razorfish developed a special app that used the ABBYY Cloud OCR SDK for reading out the individual codes and sending it directly to the database for the lottery.
